I first thought this was a bizarre graphic, but now I've realised this is actually a brilliant design. The designer has made 50 symbols which are identifiable across a distance by making them all dissimilar by colour and design. You can't do that with 50 colours or 50 shapes. Genius.

Hi, I'm Jonathan Soma, a Brooklyn-based developer. I like making things with Ruby, yarn, or stray vegetables.
We're Brooklyn Brainery, a collaborative education organization based out of Brooklyn.
We like building things, and helping people and ideas connect across disciplines.
So we came across a ton of beautiful old documents in the Library of Congress's online archive.
The browsing interface wasn't too easy to use, and it was nearly impossible to play around with the documents, zooming and checking out different parts.
So we did what any good programmers would do: fixed it all up. You can read the whole story over here.
Libraries! Museums! People with a million old maps and documents!
We think organizing information like this is awesome, and we'd love to give you a hand in sorting your digitized documents.

Love it. Where do we petition for these to be the new state flags?
